Dobbins perform Keller's Michigan Jazz Suite at
the Ann Arbor District Library (downtown Ann Arbor) as part
of the statewide Michigan Reads Program. This special
concert starts at 2:00 PM and ends at 3:30 PM. This is a FREE EVENT!
The Michigan Jazz Suite is a collection of 16 original Keller
compositions dedicated to and inspired by people, places and icons
of the great state of Michigan. Titles include Big Mac (inspired
by the Mackinac Bridge), Pink And Silver Sands (for the Lake
Michigan beaches of Holland and Saugatuck), Corn Flake (for
Battle Creek), There's Something In The Water (inspired by
the rich legacy of Detroit jazz history) and The House By The Side
Of The Road (dedicated to Ernie Harwell, Detroit Tigers Hall of
Famer and famous radio broadcaster). The Ann Arbor District Library

is a Benefit Fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Red
Cross and several other reputable relief organizations to help those
Haitians in desperate need. Admission for the benefit is $20.00.

April 26 our dear friend and long time PKO bandmate, trumpeter
Jeff Gedz died suddenly at home in his sleep. Jeff leaves behind
his beloved wife Karen and 3 beautiful children Nina (13, Max (11)
and Ella (5). The Gedz family and the Paul Keller Orchestra will host
a party and luncheon in celebration of Jeff Gedz' life and legacy
at the home of the PKO, the Keystone Underground from 1:00
PM till 4:00 PM. The big band will play, food and drinks will
be served, anyone who wishes to eulogize Jeff will be welcome to speak.
All friends are welcome and musicians are encouraged to bring their
instruments and play.
The Keystone Underground is located at 200 W. Michigan Ave. (@ Washington

The Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra will premier the newest magma
opus by Paul Keller entitled THE YPSILANTI ORCHESTRAL
JAZZ SUITE at Towsley Auditorium in the Morris Lawrence Building
on the campus of Washtenaw Community College. Showtime is 3:30 PM.
THE YPSILANTI ORCHESTRAL JAZZ SUITE features the full
75-piece Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra (under the direction
of Adam Raccinto) as well as local Ypsilanti jazz musicians
saxophonist Doug Horn, trumpeter Rayse Biggs, drummer
Sean Dobbins, pianist Tad Weed and bassist, composer
Paul Keller. This special composition will be part of a Ypsilanti
Symphony Orchestra concert that salutes Ypsilanti heritage and will
include other special orchestral and vocal music that has historical
significance relating to Ypsilanti.
THE YPSILANTI ORCHESTRAL JAZZ SUITE contains five movements
dedicated to Ypsilanti heritage. The titles of each movement are:
#1. Woodruff's Grove (the original name of the first
1823 settlement in the Ypsilanti area along the Huron River)
#2. Ypsilanti Underground (dedicated to Ypsilanti's
important Civil War connection to the Underground Railroad which helped
southern slaves escape bondage)
#3. The Real McCoy (dedicated to Elijah McCoy: 1880s
Ypsilanti resident and an important African/American inventor of automatic
oil systems for locomotives as well as the folding ironing board)
#4. The Great Migration (dedicated to the World War
II era and the northern migration of southerners seeking work in the
auto factories retooled for wartime production)
#5. Downtown To Depot Town (a tip of the hat to Michigan
Ave. and Depot Town, the resilience of the community and the bright
future of Ypsilanti)
