The Bird of Paradise Orchestra's second CD on Schoolkids Records entitled "Project X", is an eclectic blend of hard-swinging big band music. The selections range stylistically from Jelly Roll Morton's "Burnin' the Iceberg" to classic standards like "Time after Time" and "Take the A Train" to J.J. Johnson's poignant ballad, "Lament". Also showcased are four innovative and exciting original compositions by bassist/leader Paul Keller, trumpeter Chris Kase, and the great pianist Eddie Russ.

Each Tune on "Project X" features an original, never-before recorded arrangement by one of several talented arrangers in the band. The BOPO's wonderful vocalist, Susan Chastain, adds grace and charm to this recording's many appealing qualities.
This CD, recorded live at the Bird of Paradise Jazz Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan, accurately reflects the group's diversity, integrity, fine musicianship, and sense of humor, all of which are displayed each Monday night at their regular performances at the Bird of Paradise. Be it an original chart, a big band classic, or a traditional jazz piece, everything played by the BOPO is transformed into something fresh and new that is all their own.
